Minor Skin Infections, Rashes, Insect Bites and Minor Allergic Reactions

Skin Conditions

Skin conditions are common, and while many are mild, they can still cause significant discomfort, irritation, and anxiety. At the London Urgent Care Centre (LUCC), we provide expert assessment and treatment for a wide range of minor skin complaints, including infections, allergic reactions, rashes, and insect bites. Our aim is to relieve your symptoms quickly and identify any underlying causes that may need further attention.

Minor bacterial skin infections such as impetigo and infected cuts or grazes are treated promptly with topical or oral antibiotics, depending on the severity. Impetigo, in particular, is highly contagious and typically affects children, but can also occur in adults. Early treatment not only shortens the course of the infection but also helps prevent it from spreading to others.

We also manage fungal infections such as:

  • Athlete’s foot
  • Ringworm
  • Candidiasis (thrush)

These infections often affect areas of the body that are warm and moist, like the feet, groin, or underarms. Symptoms can include redness, itching, scaling, or cracked skin. With appropriate antifungal creams or medications, most cases clear up quickly. Our clinicians will also advise you on prevention strategies to reduce the risk of recurrence.

Viral skin conditions like shingles (herpes zoster) and cold sores are another area we can help with. Shingles is caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus and typically presents as a painful rash with blisters. Prompt antiviral treatment can reduce the severity and duration of symptoms and help prevent complications, especially in older adults or people with weakened immune systems.

Rashes are a common concern and can have a wide variety of causes, including:

  • Eczema
  • Contact dermatitis
  • Allergic reactions
  • Autoimmune conditions such as psoriasis

Our clinicians take a careful history and examine the affected skin to determine the likely cause. Treatment may include emollients, topical steroids, antihistamines, or advice on avoiding irritants or allergens.

Insect bites and stings can cause localised redness, swelling, and itching. In some cases, people may experience a minor allergic reaction. We can provide relief through antihistamines, soothing creams, and oral medications where needed. If you have experienced a larger or unusual reaction, we’ll assess the severity and advise you on monitoring symptoms, while helping you understand how to avoid bites in the future.

Although many skin conditions are mild and self-limiting, some may be signs of more serious illness or chronic skin disease. At LUCC, our experienced team can distinguish between minor issues and those requiring specialist input. If necessary, we will refer you to a dermatologist or arrange follow-up investigations.
