Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
Are you experiencing a burning sensation when you urinate, needing to go more frequently than usual, or feeling pain or pressure in your lower abdomen or pelvis? These are all common symptoms of a urinary tract infection (UTI), a condition that can cause significant discomfort and should be treated promptly to prevent complications.
At London Urgent Care Centre (LUCC), we provide fast, effective care for UTIs. UTIs occur when bacteria—most often from the bowel—enter the urinary tract and cause inflammation or infection. This can affect the bladder (cystitis), the urethra (urethritis), or even the kidneys (pyelonephritis) in more serious cases. While UTIs are more common in women, they can also affect men, children, and older adults.
When you come to LUCC with symptoms of a UTI, our clinicians will first take a detailed history to understand the nature and duration of your symptoms. We will then perform a simple urine analysis to confirm whether an infection is present. In many cases, this can be done quickly on-site. Based on your test results and clinical symptoms, we will prescribe an appropriate course of antibiotics, along with advice on pain relief and hydration to support your recovery.
Prompt treatment is important. Left untreated, a simple UTI can spread to the kidneys and lead to more severe illness, including:
- High fever
- Chills
- Nausea
- Back or side pain
These complications may require hospital care, so it’s essential to seek help as soon as symptoms appear.
Some people, particularly women, experience recurrent UTIs. If you have had multiple infections in a short period of time, we can offer preventative strategies tailored to your individual circumstances. These may include:
- Lifestyle and hygiene advice
- Hydration tips
- A longer course of low-dose antibiotics
In cases where infections keep returning despite treatment, we may refer you for further testing to rule out underlying conditions such as kidney stones, anatomical issues, or other chronic bladder problems.
We also support patients with related urinary symptoms that may not be caused by infection. Conditions such as interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome), bladder irritation, or inflammation of the urinary tract can mimic the symptoms of a UTI but require different management approaches. Our experienced team will assess your symptoms carefully and ensure that you receive the most appropriate treatment or specialist referral if necessary.
UTIs can cause a lot of discomfort, but with the right treatment, most cases resolve quickly and completely. At LUCC, we’re here to help you feel better—fast. Whether it’s your first UTI or a recurring problem, we offer same-day access to diagnosis, treatment, and advice to get you back on your feet.
